Former Baringo civic leaders vow to guide Gen Z’s

Former Baringo County councilors have pledged to support and guide Gen Z’s concerns and grievances, while addressing the gap in the community.

Speaking during a presser at the Kabarnet Public Park on, the group’s secretary Joshua Matetai lauded the Gen Z’s for raising pertinent issues affecting the nation like poor economy, unemployment, runaway corruption, nepotism and hiring of unqualified personnel among other concerns.

Matetai praised President William Ruto for his swift action on their demands, including cabinet dissolution, Attorney General firing, not signing the Finance Bill 2024 and commencing efforts to reconstitute IEBC. He stated that going forward, they will spearhead the grievances touching the county administration to see to it that they are amicably addressed within the shortest time possible.

“Our youth have raised concerns including on the accountability and transparency of the County Executive Committee (CEC’s) as well as Members of County Assembly (MCAs) which we are ready to follow up for them,” said Matetai. The former Seguton Ward Councilor urged the youth to maintain peace and refrain from engaging in unruly behaviors even as the government acted upon their demands.

At the same time, another former civic leader Richard Tergat, also called for peaceful engagements advised the youth that it is against the Kalenjin traditions to burn down public and private properties and assets, or to throw stones when agitated over an issue.

Tergat who spoke using the local dialect stated that it is time for the youth to respect the current leadership and critic only using the constitutionally accepted laid down mechanism.
