Former Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa Iria secured a court order that barred the police arresting him in relation to the Sh140 advertisement tender awarded to Top Image Consultancy Limited in his first term.

The conservator order issued by High Court Judge Cecelia Githua barred the Director of Public Prosecution from implementing any action of the six Iria, his wife Jane Waigwe Kimani, former county government officials Mr  Partick Mukuria, Mr Muturi Karanja, and businesspersons Jane Mbuthia, David Maina and Solomon Mutura who had been directed to report at the EACC office in Nairobi on Tuesday.

Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru representing Iria, Waigwe and Mutura said the police in defiance to the order had arrested Waigwe and Mutura.  The EACC sleuths, he said, jumped over the fence and broke doors to their residence in Nairobi to effect the arrest, a move that caused panic in the compound and traumatized the children.

” The matter will be mentioned before Justice James Wakiaga on April 23,” ruled  Githua.

To save  Waigwe and Mutura from spending a night in cells, the former Governor hired a helicopter to fly his lawyer from Murang’a to Nairobi to deliver the certified court order that was demanded.
