Accident

Four passengers died this morning after a bus they were travelling in was involved in a grisly accident at Gofchoba area on the Marsabit-Moyale highway. Marsabit Traffic Base Commander Jacob Kiprop said the 6am accident involving a bus belonging to Sores Company left scores of other travellers with injuries.

Mr Kiprop said 29 passengers were injured, 9 critically and are recuperating at the Marsabit county referral hospital.  He told KNA that among those killed in the accident were two men and two women. The base commander said investigations have started to establish what befell the Moyale town bound bus from Nairobi.

Mr Kiprop said preliminary investigations indicate that the driver of the ill-fated bus could have been speeding when he lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road and overturned. “Early investigations point at speeding because the four died on impact,” he said and asked drivers to strictly observe the highway code.

Marsabit governor Mohamud Ali who visited the injured at the hospital expressed his sympathies to the injured and wished them quick recovery. The governor also consoled the bereaved families and urged motorists to exercise caution in order to safeguard human life.
