Gatanga moves to allocate Sh400 million towards Schools improvement.

Gatanga constituency has been allocated Sh400 Million towards the refurbishing and modernisation of public schools.

In the programme, the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) has allocated Sh156 million for the improvement of 87 primary and junior secondary schools, through labour contracting where hundreds of the youths will be involved.

The programme will be implemented in phases, where Swani and Ngelyia primary schools will get Sh6 million and Sh5.6 million respectively in the upgrading programme.

Launching the Msingi bora programme, at Gitiri primary school, local MP Edward Muriu said the youth who have been trained will be engaged, as the NG-CDF procures construction materials.

He said many of the schools were in a deplorable state and were built during the independence period. “We have enough resources to tile the classrooms, repair the roofs and construct proper toilets for the children,” said the MP.

In the administration of the bursary programme, Muriu said in the past, parents from the neighbouring constituencies of Kandara, Thika, and Ruiru had benefitted at the expense of Gatanga residents.

“We have installed new software that will link the child to the parents to ensure the kitty benefits only Gatanga residents,” said Muriu.

The Msingi Bora Programme is similar to Kiharu constituency Masomo Bora initiative which has improved the schools through the tiling of classrooms among other programmes designed to uplift standards of education.
