Gichugu Technical and Vocational College (TVC) has started admitting students with learning scheduled to formally begin in September this year.
The newly established institution through the National Government -Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), at the tune of Sh12 million, with the Ministry of Education injecting into the project Sh40 million, will offer various technical courses. This is in line with the government plan to have at least a TVET in every Constituency.
The TVC has received learning equipment with instructors being posted to kick start learning activities. The Institution has a capacity of 3,000 learners, engineering courses being given the foremost priority. Gichugu Member of Parliament (MP), Githinji Gichimu, said the residents are elated because the long awaited Institution is now in place to provide the much needed vocational courses.
The MP who has been instrumental and the brainchild behind the construction of the Institution has challenged students wishing to join the Institution, to take up technical courses which will help them get employed or be self-employed.
“The construction has stalled for some time, but we have done everything within two years, to ensure that it is completed and ready for learning, I want these students to get skills, ready for job market or even self-employment,”. He assured the College that full support necessary will be provided, so that all residents from the area and other counties will benefit.
The Legislator delivered a Sh 2Million cheque, to cater for the first 500 students each receiving Sh4,000.
