Heads of Government Departments (HoDs) and other government officers should take the lead in communicating the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) and explain to Kenyans what the government is doing to improve their social and economic standards.
The Kericho County Commissioner (CC) Gilbert Kitiyo who today addressed the County Implementation Coordination and Management Committee meeting (NGD-CICMC) in his boardroom noted that the government of Kenya was implementing various projects and programmes in Kericho and the Country at large but wananchi are not aware of them due to failure of government officers to communicate the same to Kenyans.
“The government of Kenya under the Kenya Kwanza administration is carrying out myriads of projects and programmes including Affordable Housing Project (AHP), markets constructions, road construction, tree planting and reforestation programme, fertilizer subsidy to farmers, Inua jamii for the elderly and senior citizens, registration and issuance of Passports and ID cards to the youth among others “Mr Kitiyo observed.
The CC noted that going forward Heads of Departments HoDs with programmes and projects in their dockets and departments should take the lead and create awareness and publicise all the government projects through the relevant government press organ the Kenya News Agency (KNA), friendly private media and also place them on notice boards in their offices.
Kitiyo said the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda’s (BETA) main objective is to improve the living standards and welfare of Kenyan through Affordable Housing and settlement, Agriculture, Healthcare, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Economy, and the Digital Superhighway and creative Economy.
The CC revealed that the government was constructing a total of 1000 housing units under AHP programme at Talai Majengo in Kericho, 22 kilometres of tarmac road in Kericho town, Kapsuser – Sosiot road, and modern markets at Chesinende, Sosiot, Kapkatet, Forte Tenan, and Lelu in Kipkelion, among other projects and programmes.
On illicit brews and drug abuse the CC urged the County government of Kericho to regulate the issuance of licences by instituting tough measures to cut down the number of wines and spirits outlets and bars within the County.
Kitiyo noted that despite efforts by the police to crackdown on the endemic illicit brews’ dens in the County the incidence of brewing sale and consumption of illegal liquor keeps on arising owing to improper issuance of liquor licences.
He also noted that unscrupulous individuals had devised methods of evading arrests by police officers during crackdowns by carrying out their illicit trade behind closed doors inside their houses but assured residents of Kericho that those behind the graft will be pursued and arrested.
