The National government has released capitation grants for the free day secondary school’s education programme worth Sh16 billion while Sh7 billion capitation has been set aside for public junior secondary schools.
This is according to the Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Ezekiel Machogu, who said Sh6.794 billion has also been disbursed to the Higher Education Loans Board for loans while Sh3.98 billion would be disbursed for scholarships through the Universities Fund.
The Cabinet Secretary further said in this financial year, the government had released a total of Sh30.5 billion to cover secondary school education capitation and scholarships for students in universities assuring that the funds would be received by schools before they close for the April holidays.
“The government has given scholarships of almost 80 percent and also 20 percent loans to ensure there is success in our universities and higher institutions of learning,” said Machogu
The CS was speaking during the Kipkelion East Academic Day event at Sacred Hill Girls Secondary School in Londiani, Kericho County where the NG-CDF bursary worth Sh50 million was disbursed to benefit needy students in secondary schools, Colleges and Universities in Kipkelion East constituency.
The Education CS who was accompanied by Agriculture Principal Secretary Dr. Paul Rono and area MP Joseph Cherorot also commissioned ten classrooms in Chepkongony Comprehensive Schools in Kedowa Kimugul ward that underwent complete renovation (total roof, doors & windows replacement, plastering and painting) and tiling.
Kipkelion East MP Joseph Cherorot assured the residents of his commitment in ensuring academic and educational infrastructure are upgraded to modern standards.
“I unreservedly applaud the schools’ boards, their administration and more so teachers for their collective commitment in moulding the pupils and students’ academic paths and lives,” he said.
