Governor Barasa distributes bursary cheques to schools in Idakho South Ward

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has commenced the distribution of bursary cheques to schools in the County. The county government allocated Sh4million worth of bursary funds for every ward in the 2023/2024 Financial year.

Speaking at Eregi Catholic Church today, Governor Barasa said Secondary School students will receive Sh 3000 each while those in polytechnics will be receiving Sh10 000 each.

Some of the schools that have benefited from the funds are Friends School Lusiola which has received a bursary cheque worth Sh627 000 and Friends School Chandumba that has received a bursary cheque of Sh549 000. The Governor said the distribution exercise of the bursary funds will continue to other schools in the county.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, Governor Barasa said the county government will reduce the allocation of Bursary funds in the 2024/2025 financial year to Sh3 million per ward from the 2023/2024 Financial year allocation of Sh4 million per ward.

He said the county will now focus more on improving the Early Childhood Development Education Centers (ECDEs) and County Polytechnics which are devolved functions. “I want to confirm that capitation for county polytechnics shall be on time to ensure the programs continue effectively,” the governor noted.

He also said that the county government will improve infrastructure in ECDEs including purchase of more desks and taking care of the welfare of teachers.
