The Inter-Governmental Relations Technical Committee (IGRTC) has been urged to fast track the transfer process of all public land in Baringo in bid to secure them from grabbers.
Baringo governor Benjamin Cheboi noted that there have been persistent attempts by corrupt individuals to encroach on land, buildings and properties belonging to both County and National Governments across the region.
Cheboi made the remarks when he hosted the IGRTC team led by vice chairperson Saadia Kontoma who presided over the handing over ceremony of 243 movable assets estimated at Sh 119.7 million in his Kabarnet office grounds on Tuesday.

The Governor stated that further delays will disadvantage quite a number of civil servants who are in need of working spaces.
He tasked IGRTC together with other relevant stakeholders including National Treasury, Ministry of Lands and Housing to move with speed in identifying the immovable assets in order to facilitate the adjudication process for them to get title deeds.
“We would appreciate a faster adjudication of the transfer of all public properties within our county so that we are sure that they are in safe hands,” Cheboi said.
The Baringo governor at the same time commended the committee for their tireless efforts in verifying the movable assets which includes motor vehicles, motorcycles, plant machinery and equipment, which he noted is a tangible commitment of devolution and the delivery of service to the people.
However, Cheboi pointed out that there are departments like the library services whose transfer was still lacking the commensurate resources therefore calling on IGRTC to look into the matter.

The IGRTC vice chair who presented a valuation report and signed an acceptance agreement with the Baringo County government said the devolved unit will manage the vehicles and initiate transfer process from former transition authorities.
Kontoma added that the county administration will have the liberty to utilize the assets freely and dispose of those not in use as per the public procurement disposal act.
She however was quick to note some 51 assets in far flung areas which they could not identify due to security reasons and logistical challenges but tasked the county government to avail them at the county headquarters for verification and handing over.
