Uasin Gishu Governor Dr. Jonathan Chelilim has commended the role played by the County Service Centre in streamlining revenue streams that have seen the county achieve a record target of about Sh1.4 billion in own source revenue.
The County Service Center is a one stop shop for payment of all services offered by the county like parking fees, land rates, business licensing, county house rent, advertising permits and payments, environment permits and others.
Speaking during a routine check at the Centre, Dr. Chelilim pointed out that they came up with the Centre to bring all payments to one place in order to save time for the clients while at the same time ensuring they were served in a satisfactory manner.
“That every transaction that does with the revenue enhancement is done, here we are calling it Service Centre and we are doing what people call one stop shop, but we call it one desk shop because all the things we want to pay, we do it here from one desk,” alluded Governor Chelilim.
He revealed that it was in the public domain through the Controller of Budget that Uasin Gishu for the first time in its own source revenue collected Sh1.4 billion which would help the administration to empower, inspire and transform lives of residents through good governance, innovation and inclusivity for sustainable development.
“The reason for this is that we want to save time for the client and at the same time we want to serve the client in a more satisfying manner. We would like to see that a county like Uasin Gishu is way ahead through this enhanced revenue system,” he added.
Dr. Chelilim indicated that the enhanced own source revenue would play a crucial role in reducing the wage bill which has been a challenge from time to time, noting that it would help people get employment and improve service delivery to the citizens in terms of health, infrastructure and others.
All the devolved units will be sorted out. This Sh1.4 billion will enable us to offer efficient services to our people and we want to thank our people for cooperating in terms of paying taxes through the unified payment system SisiboPay which will help bring transparency and doing away with issues of corruption,” explained the Governor.
In his remarks, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) Finance and Economic Planning Micah Rogony who accompanied the Governor alongside other senior county officials, noted that the ultra-modern one stop shop and one stop desk County Service Centre where all the services for the county are served has helped to improve efficiency in terms of speed particularly for the people so that they have enough time to go and do other activities.
“The moment you go to one desk, you get all the services from the land rates, fire, all licenses from the public health license, parking and all other services you get within one desk,” said the CECM.
“We have our own charter on how long it takes to serve a client, on an average of about 2 minutes and we are working on to improve on that, and you can realize that no longer queues, you come as 20 people as you are served at one go,” added Rogony.
