Embu Governor, Cecily Mbarire, has denied involvement in the controversial Sh2 Billion land as reported in the one of Sunday newspaper today.

In a statement issued to the media in Embu, the governor says her only involvement was that she placed a call to Lands PS, Nixon Korir, asking him to hear out one of the parties to enable him to make a balanced decision on the matter.

Ms Mbarire, who is also United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party Chair, said she called the PS asking him to hear Mr Davis Chelogoi out before reaching a determination on the case.

Mbarire says the report carried in the paper’s front page under the headline “Two Governors caught up in Shs 2Bn land row” complete with her mugshot and that of Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, is misleading the public.

“In its own words, the Sunday Nation corroborates my position that I did reach out to Mr. Nixon Korir the PS for Lands, a few months ago asking if he could give Mr Chelogoi audience on the same”, the statement says.

Mr. Chelogoi, a former Nairobi Provincial Commissioner, is accused of grabbing the land in the lush Loresho neighbourhood of Nairobi.

She however says that in spite of the headline putting her in the mix, the full report carried on pages 6 and 7 of the paper does not demonstrate how she’s “caught up” in the land matter.

She further adds that she’s not one of the parties in the case and that the concerned parties are in court.

Ms Mbarire demands that the Sunday Nation retracts the headline and apologizes to her.
