Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has urged the public to embrace Ajira Program in a bid to address the challenge of unemployment among youth in the country.
Saying there is need for the country to urgently draw radical and innovative strategies geared towards addressing issues of unemployment among youth, Natembeya said existing programs like Ajira, if fully supported can help unlock solutions to the challenges of unemployment the country is facing.
The Governor was speaking at the County headquarters where he unveiled a series of socioeconomic projects geared towards creating job opportunities for the youth.
“The Ajira program is a critical step towards equipping our youth with the skills and opportunities they need to thrive in the digital economy. We are committed to creating a future where our young people can find meaningful employment without having to leave their communities,” he said adding that creation of jobs for the unemployed youth will help boost the country’s development.
Besides the digital job opportunities, Natembeya singled out water drilling program which the county has initiated to address issues of persistent water shortage in the region as an endeavor which will also help accommodate some of the unemployed youth.
“Water scarcity has been a longstanding issue in most parts of our county more so Saboti. The County government has set up an ambitious water drilling exercise which will not only ensure access to clean water, but also create jobs for our young people,” he said.
Natembeya also announced plans to ensure modern markets are erected across all the wards in a bid to provide an enabling environment businesses thus boosting local trade. Singling out Muroki Market Center, Natembeya emphasized that existing markets will also be given a facelift.
If completed, Muroki Market will be a game-changer for our local economy,” said Natembeya. Present during the exercise was County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture Phanice Khatundi and Members of Trans Nzoia County Assembly Andrew Kutitila (Sikhendu) and Bonface Cheloti (Saboti).
