Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo has urged youth to venture into agribusiness for self-employment.

Dr. Ottichilo is encouraging the young people to go for the available opportunities in various value chains including poultry farming, horticulture and aquaculture for the generation of income. The governor, who spoke in the aftermath of the International Youth Day as he viewed products showcased by the youth, challenged them to embrace climate smart agriculture so as to be able to reap optimal returns.

He noted that his administration has partnered with other organizations such as Tupande One-Acre-Fund to train the residents on the best agronomical practices.

The county head stated that structures are now in place to operationalize the Vihiga County Youth Act which would go a long way on addressing issues concerning youth.

“We have recruited Youth Development Officers who among other tasks will develop a database of the youth which would aid in planning programmes aimed at promoting their socio-economic welfare,” he asserted. He observed that the young people constitute an integral part of the populace and hence empowering them would make a great impact in the society.
