Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has withdrawn the countyās 2024 Finance Bill. She said following an outcry from residents that the bill will hurt their enterprises, she ceded ground and will now continue using the 2023 finance bill.
Some Gen Zs had threatened to demonstrate in Homa Bay Town over the same.āWe are not proceeding with the finance Bill for this year because of the mood in the country,ā she said. Wanga added that she received petitions in regard to taxes, which she would like to address.
Ā Ā She however explained that her administration has improved revenue collection from 400 million in 2022/23 financial year to 1.2. billion in 2023/24 financial year. Wanga said due to the improvement in revenue collection, they have made significant improvement in development projects over the past one year.
The governor attributed improved revenue collection to the introduction of a digital collection system.āWe have managed to eliminate all forms of corruption in the revenue department. That is why there is an increment in collection,ā the Governor said.
She pointed out the health sector, which she said has seen tremendous improvement due to the revenues collected. āBesides health, we have undertaken projects in water, roads and education where we support students through bursary programmes,ā Wanga said.
