Culture
As both international and domestic tourists look forward to visiting the Maasai Mara Game Reserve to witness the wildebeest migration, Tharaka Nithi County Woman Representative Susan Ngugi, has moved to promote culture as medium of good morals in the contemporary world.
While addressing Nthambo cultural promoters’ group in Chuka/Igambang’ombe constituency, Ngugi encouraged more groups to embrace and promote culture to enable people to learn forms of communication with respect to themselves and others.
“Embracing our heritage is essential to our identity. Being learned is no reason to neglect our culture. We must take pride in our traditions and share them with others for posterity unto the present and future generations, “said the Woman Rep, adding that only retrogressive cultural practices such as FGM should be shunned.
She encouraged residents to embrace traditional foods, dress in their traditional attires and promised to help groups with such agenda as a way of promoting culture. She said culture also attracts tourists.
Pointing out that she is obligated to help all groups across the county in their income generating activities. Ngugi emphasized: “If we promote and teach children our culture, they will have inquisitive attitudes that can benefit them throughout their lives.”
The Woman Representative issued cheques to three groups; Sh105,000 to Nthambo cultural promoters’ group in Magumoni ward, Sh150,000 to Hope Youth Initiative in Mugwe ward to boost their table banking project and Sh100,000 to Ndagani Air Market Hawkers in Karingani ward to boost their posho mill project.
Present at the event were Igambango’mbe Member of County Assembly Njeru Ing’ara, and his Magumoni counterpart Justin Kithinji.
