The government is moving with speed to roll out projects and programmes in counties, New County Commissioner (CC) Kiambu Henry Wafula has today said.
The CC noted that in order to fully implement and roll out the projects successfully, it is important for stakeholders involved to work as a team.
Speaking today when he met for the first time with Kiambu Head of Departments, (HoDs)_ Wafula named some of the current programmes that should be up to speed as Social Health Insurance Funding (SHIF), ongoing Education, Roads programmes among others.
“We need to be on top of things when it comes to programmes under our departments and the programmes there in order to implement them fully,” he said giving an example of a County Social Development Officer who should know how much money the government has disbursed for the Elderly and vulnerable children.
The new CC emphasized team work, communication and service delivery to the people of Kiambu to be a priority saying the community in Kiambu should be able to feel the presence of the Government. The CC also cautioned the head of departments not to involve themselves in local politics but be professional in delivering governments agenda through its projects and programmes.
Wafula further urged all to embrace tree planting in line with the President’s commitment to 15billion trees by 2032. During the meeting Peter Nganga from Kenya Forest Service challenged head of departments to be engaged and incorporate tree planting activities to be able to meet the deadline set for the County which is 16.3 million trees per year.
Olympia Karimi, a Director at the State Department of Gender Kiambu called upon HoDs to join hands as the Country prepares to commemorate the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, an annual campaign that takes place from November 25 to December 10 to raise awareness and encourage action to end violence against women and girls.
