Huduma centre transforming lives in remote villages in Laikipia

A Huduma centre in the remote part of Laikipia is improving the livelihood of residents after years of desperation.

Lamuria Huduma Centre, which started operations three months ago, has been ranked among the most active offices following the large number of persons seeking service.

The centre managed by Mr Taabu Omar Mafimbo has served more than 10,000 from the sub-counties of Kieni West( Nyeri), Laikipia East and Ndaragwa( Nyandarua).  The facility was launched in March by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua when he toured parts of Laikipia County under the invitation of Governor Joshua Irungu and Laikipia East MP Mwangi Kiunjuri.

Sospeters Gichamba, a resident of Ngobit said the facility has been of much help to the residents who have been suffering when seeking for public services. The youth, Gichamba said, shy away from seeking to register their companies with the National Construction Authority (NCA), like in other areas.

“The centre is God sent after it was constructed by Laikipia East NG-CDF during the tenure of the former MP Amin Deddy Mohammed to ease access to government services,” said Gichamba.  Monica Njambi said the establishment of the facility was God sent as hundreds of the residents have benefitted.

” Birth Certificates have been a major issue but with the facility being close to the villages we are sorted,” said Njambi, a mother of two.  James Maina, a teacher, says in the past residents from part of Laikipia east used to trek long distances to access the services, thus reducing working hours.

” Alot of man working hours that were wasted are now being put into prudent use,” said Maina.

Mafimbo said the chiefs were working with the staff at the centre to sensitise the community on available national and county services instead of travelling to the county headquarters.

“We are excited to serve the public, this year, for the first time they are assisted to file their KRA returns. In the past they used to travel to Nyeri, Nyahururu and Nanyuki offices to submit their returns,” said Mafimbo.

Laikipia Central DCC Joshua Marete said last week, the centre celebrated the milestone achieved after the residents in the localities identified it as a one stop shop for government services.

“The most basic services demanded at the centre are birth certificates, registration of self-help groups, and payment for services to national and county governments,”said Mr Marete.
