Floods

Some 196 households in Nataparkakono, Turkana central sub county area have been affected by floods. According to the Turkana County Red Cross coordinator Rukia Abubakar, 1,381 livestock have also been swept away by the waters, adding that those who have been affected fall within age bracket of 0-69 years.

Abubakar was speaking while distributing food supplies, dignity kits and establishing sanitary facilities for women and girls in flood victim’s camp.

The coordinator urged all partners, including national and county governments to unite and save lives from potential livestock loss due to prolonged rains, cited by the metrological department.

The Kenya Red Cross society has also been offering counseling services, even as the process of registration of those affected by the floods still continues in the affected regions.

Lodwar Township Member of County Assembly, Ruth Kuya urged the residents living in lowlands to relocate to higher grounds for their safety.

We are calling for special attention to be given to persons living with disabilities, she added.
