Mining
The government has intensified a crackdown on illegal miners exploiting the natural resources in the western Kenya.
In the crackdown, coordinated by Mining Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi in the third day, the police have managed to intercept the miners in Ramba, East Asembo ward, Rarienda sub county in Siaya County.
The locality is characterized by old colonial gold mines like the historic San Martin Site and which has registered unregulated and illegal mining activities dominated by the foreigners.
The PS said the multi-agency team made an impromptu visit in Ramba and arrested three suspects who were booked at Yala police station. They will be arraigned in court on Monday.
“The crackdown on the illegal miners will continue until we end the illegal exploitation of our resources,” said the PS.
This week, the multi-agency team arrested 31 Chinese nationals after they were found operating illegal gold mines in Nyatike and Rongo sub counties in Homa Bay County.
