I will oppose the Finance Bill 2024, says Atandi

Bill

Alego – Usonga legislator, Samuel Atandi has vowed to oppose this year’s finance bill, alleging that it was punitive to Kenyans.

Speaking during the commissioning of a water project at Ng’ura primary school in central Alego location, Atandi said that he and other opposition members of parliament have unanimously agreed to shoot down the bill that is expected in parliament next week, following the presentation of the 2024/ 2025 financial year budget yesterday.

He accused the government of failing to listen to the public outcry during various public participation forums held across the country, singling out the increase of taxes in some basic commodities such as bread. Atandi called on members of parliament from across the political divide to stand with Kenyans and say no to punitive taxation.

He warned MPs that will support the bill to be ready to face Kenyans’ wrath, adding that they should be ready to vacate parliament during the 2027 general elections. The MP called on Kenyans to hold their leaders accountable by closely monitoring how they are undertaking their duties and whether they are serving the interests of the public or their individual interests.

“Kenyans must now begin to hold their leaders accountable,” he said, adding that there was no way the government can collect Kenyans’ views on an issue only to discard it and enact policies against the wishes of the citizens.
