Turkana County Government has received a total of 155 valued movable assets including Motorcycles, Vehicles and plant machinery, previously owned by the obsolete local authorities.
The assets and the reports were handed over by a representative of the Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee (IGRTC), tasked with the responsibility of ensuring a smooth transfer of assets from the obsolete local authorities to the county governments.
According to gazette notice number 3889, the primary objective of this exercise was to confer the assets to counties to safeguard and secure proprietorships and provide data for the counties to update their asset registers.
Presiding over the signing ceremony, the Deputy County Secretary, Joseph Nyanâga, pointed out that some assets might have been left out during the valuation exercise.
âTurkana is very vast and I believe there are places the valuers did not cover. There is a possibility that some motor vehicles that could be of use to the county are not valued,â he said.
The Chief Officer for Roads and Transport, Eng. Mark Achilla echoed the handing over exercise stating it grants the county government the ownership rights.
He added that there will be subsequent engagement with NTSA for re-registration and appropriate disposal of the obsolete assets. Â Isaac Juma, a technical officer, witnessed the signing of the valuation report on behalf of the Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee.
