Kakamega Governor extends more social grant to residents

Governor Barasa Launches ECDE Centre in Matungu Sub County

Kakamega County Government plans to expand social protection grants to cover more residents to improve the welfare of more vulnerable persons in the region.

Local Governor Fernandes Barasa emphasized the resolve by the county to economically empower the citizenry by providing a supportive environment for their businesses to thrive with a particular focus on vulnerable persons. Barasa made the announcement after he presided over the distribution of social protection grants to at least 900 groups including the youth, women and people living with disabilities.

He said each group received Sh50,000 following a successful vetting process and the county government is fully committed to the project to cover more residents.The governor added the programme supplements other initiatives aimed at economically empowering the residents and includes the distribution of subsidized farm inputs and the construction of roads to facilitate the movement of goods.

The governor also noted that the construction of market stalls is also a booster to their economic activities and urged them to apply for the funds this fiscal year. The governor was speaking yesterday at Musanda Market in Mumias Sub County when he went to assess the impact of the recently distributed social protection grants to the beneficiaries.

He was accompanied by senior county staff and several local politicians.
