Over 900 residents of Kakamega turned up for a free medical camp organized by the Aga Khan Hospital in partnership with the German Corporation and the county government. The residents were diagnosed with various ailments and received treatment with one patient being referred to Kakamega General Hospital for further treatment after presenting symptoms of severe Malaria.
Among the services offered were diabetes screening, nutritional advice, breast and prostate cancer screening, consultation, basic medical check-ups and diagnosis of upper respiratory tract infections. Aga Khan hospital Kisumu Pharmacy manager, Dr. Sally Hawi who led the doctors in attending to patients said most residents presented symptoms of bacterial infections and hypertension during the examination.
She said the camp is part of a countrywide outreach programme that aims at providing Kenyans with healthcare services to detect, treat and prevent ailments at early stages. She said that in the last two months they have intensified the medical camps in Kimilili, Bomet, Kericho, Kitale, Kisii and Homabay with other camps set to be held in Vihiga and Eldoret.
Dr. Hawi said they are targeting to reach between 800 to 1000 residents in every medical camp and offer treatment to patients and refer those with severe ailments.
