The Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) from the Lower Eastern Region, has donated foodstuff to Machakos victims who were affected by floods.

Speaking to the media at the Governor’s Office, Chairman (KAM), Dhiraj Vekeria, said the food is meant to cushion families displaced by the floods in Athiriver, Masinga and Yatta and Mwala Sub-counties.

“We have seen the effects of the floods in Machakos, especially in Athiriver and we decided to offer our little support to the affected people through the County Government, as one way of giving back to the society,” said Vekeria.

He said the food worth Sh700, 000 to be distributed to the flood victims and disclosed that the Association has also donated Sh5.1million to reconstruct ECDE classrooms destroyed in the floods.

Machakos Chief of Staff, Lawrence Ngovi, who received the consignment on behalf of the Governor, said that the foodstuff, will go a long way in helping close to 15,000 families displaced by the floods.

Ngovi hailed the KAM for their timely donation, saying 23 ECDE classrooms from the Nine Sub-counties, have been destroyed by the floods.

The County has reported 22 deaths due to flood-related incidents.
