Kanini Haraka wholesalers has opened a mega shop in Narok town with an aim of growing the economy of the county. David Githinji, the South Rift region manager, said the wholesale has employed over 500 employees at the Narok branch with 300 being the native while 200 are the technical people recruited from other counties.
“When we came to Narok, we wanted to prioritise employing the locals so that they can have the first benefits of our business. At the same time, there are those from outside Narok county that we have employed in our other nine branches because we value cohesion and integration,” he said.
Githinji disclosed that they support small scale traders to boost their businesses, by connecting them to banking institutions where they get cheap loans to grow their businesses. “Through this, the traders are able to expand their businesses and grow the economy of the country. This is our main focus,” he said.
The manager revealed that the secret of their success is targeting the small traders, whom they maintain as their customers, by maintaining affordable prices and ensuring they have what they need. He reiterated that the now renown wholesale began in 2007 as a small retail shop in Nyandarua and later expanded to Meru, Maua, Naivasha, Nakuru, Nyahururu, Karatina, Thika and Narok.
The county governor Patrick Ntutu who presided over the opening of the new branch said now the county is conducive for business because the people accommodate all people from all parts of the country. He observed that the new branch is being opened only two months after Quick Mart supermarket opened a new branch in Narok town, meaning the business in the town is expanding.
The governor called on more investors to invest in the town promising a peaceful environment that is conducive for business.
