Murang’a County Government has invested in the expansion of health facilities to help reduce congestion in the existing facilities.
Governor Irungu Kang’ata says the construction of the Kenneth Matiba Level Five Hospital in the 1,400 acres that Delmonte Kenya Limited (DKL) ceded to the county government followed an avenue to stop unnecessary expenses.
He told Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakbhumincha that the facility will be located in the Makeji area near completion.In a tour of the facility, after attending World TB Day at Kimorori grounds, Kenol Kang’ata said the county government will save Sh14.6 million annually from rent to a landlord at Kenol market.
” The county government is focused on increasing bed capacity at the health facilities and creating spaces to stop the sick from traveling long distances for treatment and consultations,” said Kang’ata.
At Nyakianga and Bildad Kaggia in Mathioya and Kandara respectively, he told the CS that they are constructing the first medical wards and have the facilities elevated to a level four status.
“In Maragua we have added two new wards, and three others at the Murang’a Level Five,’ said the governor. He hinted that the ambitious maternal support programme designed to encourage expectant mothers deliver in health facilities has been suspended to facilitate investigations after a fraud was detected.
” The programme provided incentive to the mothers, and we will be resumed after an audit,” said Kang’ata.
