Kenya Army Leaders Gather for Annual Strategic Conference

The Commanding Officers and Commandants of the Kenya Army recently gathered at Kahawa Barracks for their annual conference focused on a strategic review and evaluation of mission readiness.

The one-day conference was aimed at evaluating performance, assessing the operational readiness of units, and devising strategies to tackle emerging threats, thereby supporting the mandate of the Kenya Army. The forum held under the theme “Accountable and Value-Based Leadership for Mission Readiness-Navigating the Current into the Future,” provides a platform for Senior Officers to share ideas and enhance team cohesion.

While inaugurating the conference, Commander of the Kenya Army, Lieutenant General David Tarus urged officers to remain dedicated and to lead by example. In his keynote address, Lt. Gen Tarus emphasized the essential importance of a solid leadership foundation in maintaining a reliable force.

“You occupy crucial positions that influence the teams you oversee. It is essential that you consistently exemplify strong leadership in order to cultivate a reliable and resilient unit.” He stated. The General also noted that the forum provided a unique and valuable opportunity for army leadership to engage in discussions that review collective performance by identifying areas for improvement and adjusting their focus in order to meet operational demands.

The General further highlighted that the forum offered a distinctive and invaluable chance for army leadership to participate in dialogues that assess overall performance, a process that allows them to pinpoint areas needing improvement and realign their priorities to better address operational requirements.

“We must therefore draw on the lessons learned from modern battlefields and operations, as these insights are crucial for improving our forces’ leadership and overall performance,” he said. Also in attendance were Major General Luka Kutto, the General Officer Commanding Eastern Command, and Major General Jeff Nyagah of Western Command who both expressed their gratitude to the Commanding Officers and Commandants for their commitment and labour.

They emphasized the crucial role these officers play in connecting the leadership of the Kenya Army with its officers and service members, thereby ensuring the effective execution of the army’s mandate. The conference convened Formation Commanders, Chiefs of Branches from the Kenya Army Headquarters, and numerous Senior Officers, highlighting a shared commitment to improving mission preparedness and operational excellence within the Kenya Army.
