Public-Participation

Kericho residents turned out in large numbers to submit their views in today’s public participation exercise on the proposed removal from office, by impeachment, of the deputy president of the Republic of Kenya.

The Public Participation which was held at ACK Hall in Kericho Town went on smoothly without any ugly incident with the police officers’ presence within the precincts to provide security to the residents. The members of public who included the Civil Society groups, youth groups, women groups, faith-based organizations and people from all walks of life submitted their views to the National Assembly Public Participation team.

During the exercise, members of public who spoke at the function gave their varied opinions on the impending impeachment of the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The exercise was given a wide berth by politicians from Kericho County who were curiously.  Kipkoech Cheruiyot Paul from Londiani who spoke to press was concerned that it is not in the best interest of Kenyans to impeach the Deputy President instead, the President and His Deputy should sit down, resolve their differences and forge unity and start delivering to Kenyans what they promised in their campaign.

“The two were voted into office by a majority of Kenyans through the UDA ticket and thus they were inseparable and one cannot be removed and leave the other,” said Cheruiyot “What we want as Kericho residents is service delivery from the Kenya Kwanza Administration and no disunity and divisions amongst the elected leaders,” Cheruiyot added.

Meanwhile, Dr. Rotich from Kiptere, speaking on the side-lines of the exercise, said the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in subordinated his boss, the President and undermined the National unity and peaceful coexistence of Kenya’s diverse communities by making wild utterances.

Dr. Rotich who is a former CDF fund Manager further noted that Gachagua deserves to be impeached for contradicting the President on critical matters on national governance and failed to act as a symbol of national unity. The National Assembly is carrying out a one-day exercise of Public Participation to collect views from Kenyans in all the 47 counties on the proposed impeachment motion of the Deputy President.
