Kiambu Deputy Speaker John Njiru Njue arraigned before a Thika court over bribery claims

Kiambu Deputy Speaker John Njiru Njue was today arraigned before a Thika Court and was charged with asking for Sh130, 000 bribe from a private developer to allow her continue developing her plot in his ward.

Njiru who is also a UDA MCA for Hospital ward however denied the charges before Thika Chief Magistrate Atiang Mitullah and was released on a sh1 million bond or Sh500, 000 cash bail.

He was charged that on May 29, 2023, at Africana hotel in Thika town, within Kiambu County, being a person employed by a public body, and being the MCA Hospital ward, he requested for a financial advantage of Sh130,000 from Anna Nduta Wanjiru with the intend that, in consequence to allow her continue developing her plot.

He also faced a second charge of receiving a Sh130, 000 bribe from Anne Nduta Wanjiru on May 30, 2023 at a community hall in Thika town. The Magistrate from the request of the Director of public prosecutions, ordered Njiru to deposit his passport at the court. He was also ordered not to conduct witnesses in the case.

 Hence, the case will be mentioned on May 10, and hearing on July 17, 2024.
