Traders in Kilgoris have complained about uncollected garbage piling up at the gates of Kilgoris municipal market and its environs exposing residents to the risk of disease outbreak.
The traders are demanding that the county government mops up the garbage and find a dumpsite. Ledama Leshao, a youth representative and also a trader in Kilgoris Town said the county government has neglected Kilgoris Town and yet traders pay taxes.
“Traders are not enjoying the working conditions here in Kilgoris Market, garbage is littered all over, the town is dirty,” added Ledama He said that traders pay taxes and asked the governor of Narok county to issue directives on the cleaning of the town.
Brian Angego, a mkokoteni operator in Kilgoris Town Market said that the town is in a filthy state and stated that they haven’t seen county workers do their job. Angego added that they have not seen town cleaners for a while, raising an alarm over poor waste management and lack of garbage collection.
Naibartuni Mbonin, a senior business woman in Kilgoris town complained about the garbage dumped near the gate of the Kilgoris market, asking the relevant authorities to relocate the dumpsite. Mbonin added that Kilgoris Market has no rest rooms and water supply, saying that these make it difficult to carry on their business effectively.
“The garbage has not been collected for a while now, the garbage is decomposing, the people responsible we don’t know, we plead to the county government to take action,” added Mbonin. Traders raised concern over lack of garbage collection and urged the county government to act to avert a serious outbreak of diseases.
