Kirinya Stars football club team emerged victorious after beating the Galacticos of Kiambu County 1-0, therefore qualifying for a three-year sponsorship from Sportspesa Limited.

The sponsorship entails an annual stipend of Sh250,000 and a uniform for each player for a period of three years.

Kirinyaga County Assembly leadership, led by Muteti Murimi, received players and management from the Kirinyaga Stars Football Club in celebration of their efforts in the Tujiamini Cheza Diba competition, which was held in the county.

While commending the players for their dedication to sports, Murimi said that the team has his full support and that he was working towards bringing on board an array of sponsors which would go a long way in improving the welfare of the team.

“I want to let you know that you have my full support, and I am in the process of looking for donors who will help you scale to greater heights. I also wish to challenge you not to be agents of tokenism but to be propagators of transformative leadership in the county,” the Speaker said.

The Assembly Deputy Speaker Jinaro Njamumo challenged the team to harness talent across all wards while also assuring the players of his unwavering support.

Nominated member Beatrice Mitaru with the Chairperson of the woman caucus Milka Thoithi urged the team management to work towards establishing a women football club in Kirinyaga.

The County Assembly Clerk, Mr. Kamau Aidiq, encouraged the team to utilize their talent for the betterment of the team.

Team Captain Kante Irungu appreciated the efforts put in by the County Government in support of the team saying it was also time for Kirinyaga residents to support their own team.

Kirinyaga Football Club beat six other teams in the Central region to emerge victorious in the recently concluded Cheza Diba Tournament, which was sponsored by Sportspesa.
