Nakuru County Department of Health Services has procured Laboratory reagents worth Ksh 3.6 million that will enhance the diagnostic accuracy and overall patient care across different levels of health care centers. The distribution of these reagents is currently ongoing across all the 57 facilities offering laboratory services in the County.

Speaking today at Rongai Sub-County hospital the County Executive for Health, Ms. Roselyn Mungai said in today’s healthcare landscape, diagnostic laboratory tests play a crucial role in accurately identifying and managing medical conditions such as diabetes and arthritis.

She said these tests provide valuable insights that guide the health workers on treatment decisions, monitor disease progression, and ultimately, improve patient outcomes. The County Executive encouraged the elderly to visit hospitals as often as possible to check on their blood pressure, and other non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes, which is prevalent in the county.

She noted that unlike in the past when wananchi had to trek long distances to access laboratory services, which in most cases were offered at private institutions at exorbitant prices. The devolved units have ensured that all health services are moved as close as possible to the citizens.

A resident of the sub-county Mrs. Mary Rotich applauded the county officials for distribution of the laboratory reagents saying the most visible support from the devolved units was improved health care. Adding that, the devolution of health services has contributed a great deal to the health of children and expectant mothers, since there has been a lot of emphasis on their nutrition, unlike in the past when new mothers relied on hearsay.
