Laikipia residents dissatisfied over public participation exercise towards impeaching Deputy President

Public participation

A section of Laikipia county residents have faulted the public participation process on impeachment of deputy president Rigathi Gachagua claiming it was marred by irregularities.

They described the exercise as a sham claiming that some local leaders opposed to the deputy president had on the eve of the exercise mobilized people to fill the forms to support the impeachment. Speaking to the media, former Laikipia East Member of Parliament Mutahi Kimaru appealed for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to conduct the form signing exercise to promote transparency.

Gachagua is accused of gross violation of the constitution including undermining national unity through inciteful public utterances, amassing property estimated at Sh5.2 billion that is not compatible with his known legitimate income among other allegations. The motion to impeach the second in command was tabled in the National assembly on Tuesday by Kibwezi West Member of Parliament, Mutuse Mwengi.
