A section of leaders have called for action to be taken against the Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi over the contentious fertiliser scandal.
Three Murang’a leader’s senator Joe Nyutu and MPs Mary Wamaua( Maragua) and Betty Maina( Murang’a) said it was disturbing that Mithika, despite the national shame on the government, has failed to demand action on individuals behind the supply of the substandard fertilisers.
They called on President William Ruto to take action on the Cabinet Secretary for allowing the penetration of substandard fertilisers in the government controlled National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) depots.
As the leaders were addressing Maragua residents before the distribution of wheelchairs to the persons with special needs, a section of unsatisfied farmers protested after they were denied compensation of fertilisers after they obtained substandard product from the Maragua depot.
” This a major sabotage to the government and if investigations establish the CS failed in his role action should be taken with immediate effect,”said Nyutu.
Wamaua castigated the Maragua’s NCPB depot management for turning away tens of farmers who went for compensation after their former consignment were found defective.
On Wednesday, Wamaua spent the day at the depot supervising the commencement of the compensation exercise where all those who turned up received their fertilisers.
” Today I am surprised that those who went for compensation were denied the opportunity. CS Mithika should deal with the rogue suppliers of the fertiliser as the scandal has tainted the government agenda on effective food security,” she said.
Ms Maina called for sacking of Mithika over the fertiliser scandal as Kenyans were yawning for his replacement. ” Following national shame, the president should relieve him from the office and proceed and replace him,” said Maina.
