Area residents of Elburgon in Molo sub-county, Nakuru County have been urged to always turn up in large numbers when called upon for a baraza in a bid to help provide lasting solutions ailing the community that harbours a slum village.
Speaking in Elburgon, the area Assistant County Commissioner, Mellen Chitere noted that barazas are good platforms where the locals can have their issues well-articulated and help further in bridging the information gap between the locals and the administrators.
‘By actively participating in barazas, we will be able to create a good rapport and address issues of concern with ease,” noted Chitere.
Among the most highlighted issues during barazas include sale and consumption of illicit brew, insecurity, teenage pregnancies, a number of health issues and increasing number of school dropouts which according to Chitere require a collective responsibility and this will be a step towards ending such vices in the society.
“It is unfortunate that so many social ills happening in the society such as defilement, insecurity go unreported. There is need to have the information of where to report to get the appropriate assistance required for a sober society,” she said.
Attributing the increase of such ills to joblessness among other factors, Chitere urged the locals not to shy away from their problems but instead accept the existence of the challenges the community is experiencing and endeavour to give solutions for a better tomorrow.
