Negotiations

Azimio Coalition leaders have been urged to support the ongoing negotiations to form a broad based government to help restore order in the country, following weeks of protests.

Luo Council of Elders Chairman (Ker) Odungi Randa said it was important for all the opposition leaders to join the negotiation table as President Dr. William Ruto moves to reconstitute his government.

Randa called on Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Narc Kenya Leader Martha Karua, Democratic Alliance Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa and Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremmiah Kioni who have distanced themselves from the process to drop their hardline stance in the interest of the country.

Addressing the media in Kisumu, Chairman said President Ruto has shown the goodwill to address the challenges facing the country, adding that the opposition leaders must come together and sit down with the head of state to find a lasting solution.

“When they distance themselves like this I don’t want to say they will not succeed, but I feel they need to come to the negotiation table and be part of the solution,” he said. His sentiments come barely a day after the Azimio leaders announced that they will not be Party to President William Ruto’s government of national unity.

However, Azimio leader Raila Odinga has openly supported the process a move likely to split the two-year-old coalition. Randa pleaded with the opposition chiefs to put the country first and help resolve some of the issues among them bad governance which have pushed Kenyans to the streets.

He added that the issues raised by generation Z (Gen-Z) protesters across the country were valid and must be addressed to bring Kenyans back together and create an enabling environment for the economy to grow. To resolve the standoff, the government, he said, must immediately release all the arrested protesters and quickly address all the concerns raised by the Gen-Z.

The government must also compensate families whose loved ones were killed in the protests.
