The tourism sector in the World-famous Maasai Mara Game Reserve is reeling from huge losses following floods which submerged major hotels, lodges and tented camps after Talek River broke its banks.
The park’s chief Warden Stephen Minis said several tourist hotels, lodges and tented camps have been affected.
“It is true a number of establishments have been affected especially those along the Talek River. The river burst its banks due to the rains,” he said.
Felix Migoya, the East Africa tour guides and drivers association chairman, who is in the Mara ferrying tourists, said some of the affected camps include Mara leisure, Mara sweet Acacia, Fig tree Camp, Oloshaiki and Ilkelian.
A number of bridges within the reserve have also been affected.
