A man charged with dealing in wildlife meat was released on a bond of Sh200, 000 by a Narok court after he pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Kimaren Ole Kulet, was apprehended for illegally transporting zebra meat weighing 60 kilogram valued at Sh45, 000 that was concealed in two white sacks and a yellow sack near Solai Conservancy in Narok South Sub County on July 9, 2023.
He was arrested on August 26, 2023 by Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) rangers who were manning the conservancy at around 3pm. The court heard that the suspect and the contraband meat of a wildlife species in two white sacks and a yellow sack was being ferried by a boda boda when they were intercepted.
Ole Kulet was also carrying 12 arrows, one bow, one Maasai sword and a torch. The KWS witness further explained that the bodaboda rider fled when he saw the four witnesses leaving behind the accused.
The accused appeared before Principal Magistrate George Sagero and was charged with three counts which include dealing in meat of a wildlife species without a permit from Directorate General Kenya Wildlife Service, killing a wildlife species without a permit from directorate general Kenya Wildlife Service and transporting meat without a certificate of transport.
Principal Magistrate Sagero set hearing of the case to commence on September 8, 2024.
