Man in court for defilement

Defilement

A 19-year-old-man and three minors have been arraigned before a Kericho Court for allegedly gang defiling a 15-year-old girl at Kapchebon village in Bureti sub-county within Kericho County have denied committing the offence.

While appearing before Kericho Chief Magistrate Charles Obulutsa, the accused person Brian Kiprop Rono and three boys aged 14, 15 and 17 years were each charged with the main count of gang defilement contrary to section 10 of the Sexual Offences Act No. 3 of 2006.

The four also pleaded not guilty to the alternative charge of committing an indecent act with a child contrary to section 11(1) of the Sexual Offences Act No.3 of 2006.

One of the accused minors is still on the run and was charged in absentia. The charge sheet read that on 25 April 2024 at Kapchebon village within Bureti sub-county in Kericho County they intentionally and unlawfully gang defiled a minor aged 15 years.

The court ordered for an age assessment report. The four accused were escorted to remand at the Kericho children’s remand home and will be brought back to court on May 13, 2024 for a mention of their case, when an age assessment report will be tabled.
