Man slapped with Sh50,000 bond for threatening to kill

A man in his early twenties accused of threatening to kill and bury his neighbour over an undisclosed matter has been released on personal bond of Sh50,000 by a Kabarnet court.

Denis Kipchirchir was charged that on June 6, 2024 at around 11am in Kironei area of Baringo Central Sub County within Baringo county, he willfully and unlawfully threatened to kill Elijah Kipkorir by uttering the words “Leo nitakukatakata na nikuweke kwa jeneza,” (Today, I will slash you into pieces and put you in a coffin).

But when arraigned before Senior Resident Magistrate (SRM) Caroline Ateya on Monday to face charges of threatening to kill contrary to section 223(1) of the Penal Code, the accused pleaded not guilty.

“Your honour, the allegations labeled against me by the complainant are false,” claimed Kipchirchir

The complainant told the court that he was terrified upon receiving the threats which prompted him to report the matter that same day at Kabarnet police station necessitating police to swing into action and arrest the accused the following day near his home.

In her ruling, Ateya ordered the accused to be released on Sh50,000 bond or alternative deposit cash bail of Sh15,000, failure to which he be remanded at Kabarnet GK prison. The Magistrate directed the case to be mentioned next week when further directions would be issued with two witnesses lined up to testify.
