Chaos reigned at the Murang’a County Assembly after the management failed to approve a supplementary motion to install two members in the county public service board. On Tuesday, afternoon screams of distress rent the air in the precincts of the assembly as the members engaged in running battles, causing mayhem, where destruction of property was reported.
The irate members broke furniture in the main reception and in the clerk’s office after the motion to confirm Caroline Njoroge and John Kamunywa failed to be placed in the order paper as they had been promised.
During the afternoon commotion, assembly orderies and the employees could not stop the mess as the MCAs blamed the leadership for the delay to have their favourite confirmed through a motion.
“Two weeks ago, we ousted Simon Wamwea and Elizabeth Mwangi from the board, and we gave the names of our representatives, the office is playing political games to have the two remain there,” said a member. Nominated MCA Ms Sharkleen Wambui asked the party leadership to help Murang’a county assembly come back to normalcy.
“We are fighting corruption because we want our representatives Caroline Njoroge and John Kamunyua to sit on the board,” she said. County Assembly Speaker Johnson Mukuha said the fracas occurred after the members could not understand a court order had been delivered stopping the plans for the process.
“We were in the process of taking a supplementary motion to the assembly, but once the court order was delivered the plans were shelved,” said Mr Mukuha. The members said the two had failed to effect representation of their interest in the board followed by delayed salaries and allowances among other concerns.
