Migori Governor Dr. Ochilo Ayacko has called upon young people in the country to tone down their criticism against the government and engage in the proposed dialogue to resolve issues.
Ochilo who spoke to the media at his official Migori residence commended the youth for finally coming out to demand accountability, an end to injustices and a better country. “I thank the Gen Z for the re-awakening they have given us by protesting, raising their voices, marching for attention and freedom and marching against marginalization, exclusion and injustices against them and other Kenyans,” said Ochilo.
He said the actions of Gen Z remind him of how he started his political career adding that just like every generation, Gen Zs have a critical role to play in efforts to liberate and build the country. Ochilo, however, asked the police not to use excessive force against peaceful protestors saying peaceful demonstrations are guaranteed in the 2010 constitution.
The governor also urged the youth and anyone desiring to protest to do so peacefully without destroying property and disturbing businesses. He said it is only through dialogue that issues have been resolved since independence and called upon the youth to tone down and dialogue with the government and opposition.
“I urge the youth to join the government in a dialogue to discuss issues bedeviling this country. Refusing to engage in a dialogue is not the best choice,” said Ochilo.
Ochilo advised the youth to trust and choose a few members to represent them in the proposed dialogue by the political class to address some of their grievances. He also welcomed the decision of President William Ruto to assent to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Amendment Bill 2024 that will pave the way for setting up a new electoral commission.
