Public utility land which had been encroached by 12 persons in Nyahururu town have been recovered and reverted to the County Government of Laikipia.
The land measuring 2.5 acres valued at Sh110 million that had been reserved for construction of a bus terminus was repossessed by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
The land which had been allocated to the individuals through dubious means was repossessed as they had a plan to construct a one billion shillings mall.
EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi revealed that the land was illegally allocated to private developers who were developing it.
Ngumbi said that the EACC Central Regional Office has been investigating the allocation of the parcels of the land to the private developers after an official complaint was lodged by secondhand cloth dealers two years ago.
The mitumba traders claimed that land reserved for extension of Nyahururu Bus Park, they were using had been irregularly, wrongfully, illegally and unlawfully allocated to private developers.
