The Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA) organized the Regionals Swimming Championship 2024 at the Aga Khan Academy with the primary aim of identifying a team that would represent the coastal region in the upcoming National Championship.
The championship brought together talented young swimmers from various secondary schools across the region, providing them with a platform to showcase their skills and compete at a high level.
In a display of dominance, the Mombasa County Swimming Team emerged as the champions of the KSSSA Regionals Swimming Championship 2024. The team rankings, through Event 32, showcased Mombasa County’s unparalleled excellence in both the men’s and women’s categories.
With a staggering 553 points in the women’s division and 977 points in the men’s division, The Team clinched the top spots, leaving competitors trailing in their wake. Kwale County and Lamu County Swimming Teams secured second and third positions respectively.
The relay events were the game that everyone was waiting for where it added an extra layer of excitement, with teams strategizing and executing flawless transitions to gain crucial points for their counties.
On the Boys’ side, the Mombasa County Swim Team showed their dominance in the 200 Short Course (SC) Meter Medley Relay, clocking in at 2 minutes and 17.18 seconds in the finals.
A team of Khalid Bayusuf, Ali Nahdy, Aker Mutinda, and Trevor Mwamisi demonstrated exceptional coordination and skill to clinch the victory and secure 40 points for their team.
Meanwhile, Lamu County Swim Team finished second with a time of 2 minutes and 59.00 seconds, earning 34 points, while Kwale County Swim Team secured the third position with a time of 2 minutes and 59.94 seconds, garnering 32 points.
In the Girls 200 SC Meter Medley Relay event, the Mombasa County Swim Team continued dominating the competition with an impressive finals time of 2 minutes and 33.69 seconds, outperforming their seed time of 2 minutes and 17.99 seconds.
The team, consisting of Pendo Anampiu, Nalwoga Mutinda, Maria Bianchi, and Melissa Van Niekerk earned 40 points.The Mombasa County Swim Team showcased their prowess once again, retaining their title with an outstanding total of 1,610 points.
The official announcement of the team expected to represent the region will be made soon by KSSSA, as anticipation builds for the opportunity to compete on the national stage and showcase their talent against top swimmers from across the country.
