Security officers and elders have recovered 36 camels that were stolen from Isiolo County four days ago. Confirming the recovery, Isiolo Deputy County Commissioner Patrick Musango said that three more camels are at Wamba Police Station in Samburu County waiting to be transported back to Isiolo.

The administrator said that the security personnel intercepted the 36 camels at West-gate and Kipsing areas in Isiolo County before the animals could cross over to Samburu East Sub County.

Mr Musango said that the rustlers had divided the animals among the groups of raiders and fled with the camels into different routes so as to make the security men lose track of them.

Some animals were driven towards Samburu and Marsabit Counties. He advised chiefs and their assistants to swiftly report incidents of cattle thefts to the authorities using mobile phones’ SMS so that quick actions could be taken and lead to recoveries and apprehension of the culprits.

The administrator warned politicians against inciting the youth to violence following cattle raids by other communities saying the government would take stern measures against them.

Mr Musango said the government would not rest until all animals stolen recently from the area were recovered and handed over to the rightful owners.

The DCC said it was shameful that some young men could arm themselves to steal others’ property and the politicians defended them while the rightful owners of the livestock were rendered poor overnight.
