More Children in Limuru constituency are set to benefit from a school feeding programme after the MP John Kiragu promises to increase the number of schools benefiting from Food4Education, Feeding programme

During the Phase 2 launch of the programme, held at a Kamandura Primary School, ‘Mega Kitchen’, the MP urged parents to be patient as Plans are underway to ensure smooth implementation of the feeding programme in schools that are yet to benefit.

“Phase 1 of the of the Limuru tap to eat feeding programme, which started in March of 2023 has been ongoing smoothly across 17 public primary schools, we therefore planning to increase the number of schools to over 20 primary schools, Kiragu said Kiragu added that the aim is to keep children in school and to help them concentrate on learning. He added that the programme will also boost the learning outcome and increase attendance in school.

“In partnership with the food 4 Education organisation, I am focused on ensuring that no child learns while on an empty stomach, because Hunger is among the many hindrances to academic excellence,” Kiragu added Food4Education is a non-profitable organisation which runs the Tap2Eat programme which is a digital mobile platform that enable public primary school children access nutritious food at subsidised fee using mobile money

The MP cited that “Each pupil shall be fed at Sh 15 per day, translating to Sh 75 per week, Sh 300 per month, Sh 900 per term and Sh 2,70 0per year respectively. However, he said the programme shall sponsor 10% of the total population of children that have been identified by the school management as coming from needy families.

The programme is being implemented in five counties namely: Nairobi, Kiambu, Muranga, Mombasa, and Kisumu. Since its inception, Food4Education has served 31 million meals, and aims to serve over 60 million meals this year due to the expansion.
