Projects
Residents of Mosiro ward in Narok East Sub County have benefited from six dams and six maternity wings built by the County government in the financial year 2023/2024.
The projects are a big relief to the residents who have been trekking for long distances to search for water for both their domestic use and animal consumption. Timothy Ole Supeyo a resident of Mosiro ward said water is the main challenge to the residents in the area as they are forced to move with their animals every dry spell to look for the precious commodity.
He also welcomed the new maternity facilities saying women will not have to struggle during birth at home again, as the maternity services are professional and free of charge. “These are some of the projects we prioritized during the public participation forums and we are glad that they have been implemented,” said Ole Supeyo.
Nancy Kinayio, also praised the projects saying they used to trek for many kilometers to look for water for their animals. “Trekking long distances is very dangerous to the residents as there are many wild animals in this area. Some people have been killed and others injured by wild animals while on their way to search for water,” said.
On the maternity wing, Kinayio recalled how women would experience stillbirths and others lost their lives while delivering at home. “The maternity wings are fully equipped. We have not seen such a facility in this area again and we are proud that devolution is working for us,” she said.
Another resident Mary Ntobirr was optimistic that the area will grow economically following the establishment of maternity wing and water access, as these were some of the major challenges the residents were facing. The residents spoke at the Mosiro area during the commissioning of a water pan and maternity wing by Governor Patrick Ntutu.
Ntutu asked residents to take advantage of the maternity wings to deliver their children in the hospital as opposed to delivering at home, as it exposes the mother and the newborn child to danger. He asked parents to guide and counsel their children on sexual matters, during this holiday season, to avoid cases of teenage pregnancies and marriages.
The county government allocated Sh100 million to every ward in the financial year 2023/2024, where the residents led by their area Members of County Assembly would prioritize the projects to be implemented.
