Mother held in custody over her infant’s death

Court

A Court has permitted the police to hold a suspect for 14 days at Butere Police Station to allow for further investigations. Dickson Okwima representing the DCI Butere had requested for a court order to retain Caren Opate at the police cells.

The accused is the mother of a five-month-old infant who was found tragically killed on the 24th of July 2024 in their house in Butere.

The DCI suspects that Opate may have been involved in the murder of her child but according to the report made, Opate had left her baby at home to fetch water at a nearby house but upon returning, discovered her door opened, her handbag stolen and the infant killed.

The accused appeared before Principal Magistrate Edwin Wasike.
