Murang’a has managed to register increased own source revenue, projecting to collect more than a billion shillings this year. In the past two years, the county government has intensified revenue collection through the introduction of digitalisation sealing loopholes that were used to siphon public resources.
Governor Irungu Kang’ata said this year he projects the county government will collect a total of a billion shillings up from Sh500 million registered in 2022.
Speaking at Muriranja hospital Kang’ata during the issuance of wheelchairs and walking sticks to persons with special needs said the own source revenue will hit Sh1 billion, owing to the introduction of digitalisation in revenue collection.
He pleaded with Murang’a people to support the digitalisation systems as they assisted in sealing loopholes that were used in siphoning of resources in the public sector.
The governor indicated that last year’s own source revenue hit at Sh658 million, above Sh500 million collected in 2022.
“With the dedication from the county government staff we are projecting that by the end of the financial year, Murang’a will have hit the one billion shillings mark,” said Kang’ata. He explained that his own source revenue has registered an increment as his administration was using the Finance Act of 2018.
“Nothing has changed in the finance Act as we are using what was being used by the previous administration but through digitalisation we have managed to register a big improvement,” said the governor.
On the heavy rains pondering the region, he warned the locals against defying precautions from the government officials and experts geared towards ensuring their safety.
He detailed that the smart cities programme designed to expand opportunities in the trading centres, had been stopped owing to the heavy rains. “This year only the Kaguku market Smart Cities programme in Ithanga ward has been completed as others have been shelved awaiting the rains to reduce,” said the governor.
