Murang’a celebrates world water day.

Efforts have been made in Murang’a County to address challenges facing distribution of piped water to ease public suffering. The local deputy governor Stephen Munania  said the county government has invested heavily to boost water connectivity in the next three years, to ensure the commodity was accessible in all the 35 wards.

During the World Water Day celebration at  Mukerenju grounds in Kandara sub county, Munania said to achieve the target on increased water connectivity, the government has partnered with water service providers through enhancing the last mile connections programme.

“Last financial year the county spent Sh 35 million which were shared among the 35 wards, as the government facilitated piping, and distributing water from the 11 bore holes,” said the deputy governor.

 Water coverage in Murang’a stands at 60 percent.

Murang’a Water (Muwasco). Managing Director Eng Daniel Ng’ang’a said his firm has kicked off water supply to areas in Maragua sub county following the Presidential directive.

“Water coverage at Maragua town and its environs currently stands at 40 percent,” said Ng’ang’a adding that in the next three months the coverage will rise to 60 percent.

Assembly’S Water Committee Chairman Mr  Edwin Wairagu who said the assembly will next year allocate more funds to the water sector to help distribute the commodity.
